Beginner’s Luck - success!

This past friday, what amounted to about fifty listeners and storytellers, congregated in an artist’s loft in SoHo. Hannah Bertram kindly offered us her space and even introduced the night with a story of her own (and trust us, she’s pretty punk rock).

Thanks to everyone who came out. And to all of you who couldn’t make it, we’ll see you at the next one.

We’ll be posting audio from the night very soon. In the meantime, here’s a little something to whet your appetite - a story from our very own Jason Fried from our Blackout night.

Story by Jacob Krupnick - “End of the line”

This story by Jacob Krupnick was told at our second Shed. The theme of the night was “Blackout”.

Jacob is a photographer based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. You can check him out at http://www.jacobkrupnick.com/

One of our own tonight at Brooklyn Brewery

A little last minute but if you are in North Brooklyn tonight, pass by the Brooklyn Brewery at 8pm (stories start at 8:30) to see Jason Fried perform alongside Jonathan Schnapps, Mara Wilson and DC Benny in a feast of comedic stories.

The Shed: Found - Story by James Reich

The theme was FOUND and after six storytellers shared their tales, we were left without a seventh. James quickly volunteered and although he told this story unpracticed, he closed the night out putting a smile on every face. Although James is not a New Yorker, we hope we get to see a lot more of him at The Shed.

*NOTE: This Friday’s Shed is sold out. Due to very limited seating, you must have tickets to attend. It pains us to have limited seating and are working hard to secure a space that accomodates everyone for next month.

The Shed: Fall - Story by Jia H. Jung

The Shed has been, for us, about coming together first, as a collective, and then telling stories. Instead of trying to break down the wall between performer and audience, we choose to never build that wall in the first place and we’ve strived to create an environment of comfort and intimacy on both sides of the mic.

On this particular night, the clouds had parted and the rain had stopped just an hour before we began. As the wet pavement dried, our backyard filled with the energy of those needing to shed their stories and the rest of us so eager to receive them.

When Jia took the stage and began to speak, the true spirit of our humble salon was never in sharper focus, and any separation that may have been left between storyteller and audience just melted away.

Save the date: February 22nd

The long awaited next installment of The Shed will be coming to a secret winter location. More soon… Dust off those stories.
